Bad characters, bad storyline and unnecessary bad language. But, I did read it to the end just to see if it got any better. I'm not happy that I wasted one of my credits on this book. The characters were you didn't really care about as there was no substance to them.nothing to interest you in them or their lives. Anne Rivers Siddonss New York Times bestselling novel about four friends whose lives are forever changed by the events of one summer. What was most disappointing about Anne Rivers Siddons’s story? It was almost as if this was written by a different author. Not after reading this book! I was so looking forward to reading a new book by Anne Rivers Siddons because I hadn't read a book of hers for a while and used to REALLY love her books. Would you try another book from Anne Rivers Siddons and/or Kate Reading?

Or was it all just a ploy to begin with in order to get the property? Jack keeps hinting about how he knows all about Rose's "situation," is her family worse than she's letting on? Why is Jack being threatened by Rose's family? That said, I really want to know what happens, so can someone please spoil it? Not trying to yuck anyone's yum, I just can't do 5.5 more hours! (I'm listening to the audiobook). Plus, the stalking thing is just pretty unredeemable for me. I just cannot keep listening to him tell Rose to stop crying (when she's having BRAIN SURGERY) and that she can't cry because HE can't handle it. Jack gives me the worst vibes, I made it to chapter 18 and I just can't handle him anymore. In the book, Pittman and Karle make it simple by offering specific examples of how to manage fear by tapping into both of these pathways in the brain.Īs you read, you'll gain a greater understanding how anxiety is created in the brain, and as a result, you will feel empowered and motivated to overcome it. That is obsessing, ruminating, and dwelling on things that may or may not happen. By comparison, the cortex is the center of "worry." The amygdala acts as a primal response, and oftentimes, when this part of the brain processes fear, you may not even understand why you are afraid. In the book, you will learn how the amygdala and cortex (both important parts of the brain) are essential players in the neuropsychology of anxiety. Do you ever wonder what is happening inside your brain when you feel anxious, panicked, and worried? In Rewire Your Anxious Brain, psychologist Catherine Pittman and author Elizabeth Karle offer a unique, evidence-based solution to overcoming anxiety based in cutting-edge neuroscience and research. And I apologize for my harsh critique of Randy's behavior I just wanted to give my honest review of this book.īlehm looks at the uber backcountry ranger Randy Morgenson. My heart goes out to Randy's friends and colleagues, and especially his wife. I'm glad I stuck with it because the end of the book was fantastic I never saw it coming! Eric Blehm is a great author and I'm looking forward to more of his work. I had to force myself to put aside my feelings for Randy so that I could give the book and its author a chance. But I found myself disliking him so much that it actually ruined the book for me. He just seemed (to me) to be an insufferable maladjusted misanthrope.ĭespite these harsh words it's not my intention to judge Randy and I know it isn't the author's intention for this book. He could not accept the rules and norms of society, even the ones he intentionally submitted himself to (like his marriage vows). He had a privileged childhood but could not live up to his potential as an adult. While we're all flawed to some degree (no one is perfect), the more I read about Randy's behavior towards his wife, friends, and colleagues, the more I grew to dislike him as a person. However the book was about a missing backcountry ranger whom I found to be a deeply flawed human being. I loved the descriptions of the Sierra Nevada backcountry. I thought this was a great book and very well-written. However, moving half-way around the world to play nanny to Claire’s children doesn't sound like the new beginning Matty yearns for. Having grown up Navy, Matty’s no stranger to picking up and starting over. When Claire announces her family is moving, she asks Matty to come too. However, Matty learned long ago that it's easier to run and hide from life than to deal with the pain of the post-traumatic stress she’s suffered from since being raped at sixteen. Living vicariously through her best friend Claire's perfect life wasn't the plan, nor her ideal. įor the past decade, Matty Bell has lived safe in a self-made monochromatic life of work-eat-sleep-survive. This year, I’ve been asked to recommend a movie. It is a direct violation of every person’s right to live with freedom and happiness. It takes away their power and their freedom to choose their own dreams for their lives. This modern-day slavery results in more than physical injury and abuse. They grow up not knowing that they possess intrinsic worth. There is high profit and low risk in the exploitation of people-people who have much to live for, who have much to give, and who are worth far more than being used for commodity.Įvery year, 2 million children are thrown into a commercial sex trade that robs them of everything. That number is higher now than at any other point in human history. It is bleeding profusely into every crack and crevice of our societies. Slavery is an open wound which many believe was healed. We call it “human trafficking” and it remains, as it always was, a terrible blow to human dignity. Despite becoming illegal, the modern-day slave industry is thriving in every corner of the globe. The relevance of such a movie in today’s age of unrivaled human progress is distressing. After watching the film, 12 Years A Slave, I realized that a gruesome part of history has only become worse. The production is admirable as a children’s show. The play converts these songs into short musical scenes, interspersed with monologues that tie the pieces together. Boynton, known for her widely recognized illustrations of animals, gave special permission for the Yale Cabaret to stage a production her work - and the resulting production is pleasantly surprising in every way.Ĭontaining almost 20 songs that create images of farm animals that are cute but never cloying, the original book is an admirable work of children’s fiction.
